The Truth About “Making It" in the music industry
The first question we’re often asked is, “What’s your name?”
The second? “What do you do?”
It’s interesting how quickly we’re defined by our work—by what we do, how much we earn, the goals we’ve achieved. As artists and music professionals, many of us set the goal to make a full-time living from our art. And if we’re not there yet, society often tells us we’re not successful… not good enough.
But here’s the truth: even when you are making money from your music full-time, it rarely looks or feels the way you thought it would. It’s often completely different.
I’ve never met a single person who said, “I made it, and I’ve never been happier.” Isn’t that interesting?
We chase the dream, the vision, the goal. But once we arrive, we often find ourselves wanting something more. So what’s the lesson in all of this?
To let the dream evolve.
Because in the end, it’s not about where you think you should be—it’s about where you are right now. It’s about who you are becoming, how you treat yourself, and how you treat others.
Everything can shift in an instant. But that feeling, that joy, that spark, it’s always waiting for you in the now.
